Why you should not buy 1000s of directory links!

I was just surfing the net when I came across these types of offers where the SEO Companies were offering the customers to submit there websites to 1000s of directories at $15-$20. Now, come on please give me a break!

Submitting to directories is a good practice but submitting to 1000s of worthless directories is simply ridiculous. If you want to waste your money then go ahead and hire those SEO Companies who are just cheating you away on the name of ethical search engine optimization.

Top SEOs never tend to submit to 1000s of directories they may submit to a few like DMOZ Open Directory, Yahoo directory, BOTW Directory and a few more which helps in improving your search engine rankings as well as provide you decent traffic.

Even a handful of good directory links are enough for improving your rankings, but on the other hand even 1000s of poor quality directory links are not helpful in any way.

So how do you decide which directory is good and which is poor. I’ve got a few points that every webmaster should keep in mind when submitting their websites to the directories.

1. Human edited and SEO friendly.

2. High editorial integrity.

3. Checks for the duplicate description submitted by the submitter.

4. A good directory doesn’t accept all links that are submitted to it. A rate of 50% is good i.e. 50% of the sites that are being submitted are rejected.

5. The categories in the directory are well defined and the sites submitted closely relate to the category i.e. an SEO site must go to the SEO category of the directory and not to the Fun category.

6. The sites that are already present must make a co-citation. The point above is similar to this one the only difference being that the sites which are present must be similar to your site.

If you keep the above points in mind and go out to submit your websites to the directories you would do just fine, but remember the directories that are good and human edited are not cheap and the ones that are cheap are not good.
