There is no shortcut to success. At least that is what most of the people around us believe. Well, I would say that instant success is not that arduous in Search Engine Marketing. Quality link building is very important for Search Engine Rankings. Focus on obtaining links from high value websites such as authority, relevant, and industry leading websites. I do agree that getting good quality links from relevant sites can be very irksome but here are a few tips that can do wonders to your search engine rankings!
1. Contextual Links:
Contextual links are the links that are present in between the article or post. Any link surrounded by text is a contextual link. Such links are more valuable than the links that are not included within the text. Providing contextual links on your site makes these links perceivable. Create posts relevant to the content of your site. You may write articles on your blogs related to the content of your site and include your links within. You can also buy a few links from good blogs. For higher rankings emphasize more on high quality links rather than quantity. The links must be topically relevant. Having many links is of no use if the links are not relevant. While searching for a particular keyword and clicking on a link leads to a completely irrelevant site, it would irritate the user and this could do in numerous harm to your site’s ranking.
2. High PageRank Links:
A link from a high PageRank site gets a high rank itself. A PageRank is a standard of popularity to make your site visible on the web. High PageRank sites have the power to bequeath PageRank to sites they link to. Try to get links from high PageRank sites. You could do this by providing some value on your site like some link worthy content, etc. Quality is more important than quantity. Instead of having many links from a low PR site, it is better to have a few links of high PR sites. One link on a PR 5 site is more valuable than 5 links on a PR 4 site. Getting links from a site having high Page Rank on Google would axiomatically draw higher rankings for your site.
3. Site Wide Links are UGLY!
Site Wide provides links to your site on all pages of the site you are taking site wide links from. This creates same anchor text on all pages. The site wide links can be easily discovered by the major search engines and this would have a inopportune effects on your ranking.
Site wide links may not always be detrimental. If your site already has plenty of links and you take non-keyword site wide links from a site with lesser number of pages and hence links, it would not improve your rankings but it would increase the number of links you have.
On the other hand, if you are a newbie and your site does not have many links, site wide links are an absolute NO!
Say if ‘site M’ has 100 links and 50 pages indexed on Google and ‘site P’ has 1700 links and 200 pages indexed on Google, now, if ‘site P’ gets a site wide link from ‘site M’ it would have effect shown on its rankings but if we consider the opposite case when ‘site M’ takes site wide links from ‘site P’ it would have ruinous effects on the site’s ranking. Your site may even be flagged for having unnatural links. As your site would be getting hundreds of links in no time. This filter of Google is called “Too many links at once!”
4. Reciprocal Links are DEAD!
Reciprocal links are the link swaps when two sites link to each other. I link your site to mine and in turn you link my site to yours, this is how reciprocal links are created.
Reciprocal links are no longer useful for increasing your Search Engine Rankings. The major search engines such as Google do not apprize such links and you could be castigated for doing so.
Instead, you can try three way links. If A links to B, B links to C and C links to A, none have ‘link-backs’ or reciprocal links and therefore if a search engine scrutinizes your links it would find only one-way links.
5. Links from Authority Sites:
Undeniably relevant sites are the best, but high authority sites are also worth a look. Authority sites are the government sites or educational sites or sites that have been trusted by Google. These are high PR sites. Getting links from such sites is highly consequential.
If the content on your site is found relevant and interesting and worth discussing by some authority site, it will link back to you. Such links play a major role in improving your Rankings. One link from a ‘.gov’ site is more esteemed than many links from low trusted commercial sites.
If your site has links from authority sites, while ranking the sites the Search Engines will acknowledge the relevance of the content of your site and this would inevitably result in higher rankings for your site.
Slower, The Better:
Well begun is half done. If you are a beginner, do not try to create too many links at once. Try to make your growth look natural. Natural links are more efficacious than paid links.
If your blog post are enriched in content and a blogger finds it interesting and links back to your site, you will get topically relevant and natural links.
When ranking sites, major search engines take into account the number and quality of sites that link to you. With opulent number of natural links you can leapfrog your Search Engine Rankings.

Many thanks for the advice. Reciprocal linking is not worth bothering with, unless you know the reputation of the website, if their website gets into some bad linkages then you will inherit this as well.
