Finally the Yahoo Search Pad is going to be released to the public tomorrow. The feature is similar to “notepad”. The change is that it allows the users to collect all the search results to one page so that reference work will become easy.
The demo was available from last November and the users who saw that have been waiting for the feature to be launched. This is because even if the user does numerous searches about something, finally he/she will have just a single document with all the important details, URLs, other research data etc. Search Pad helps to put back manual note making as a practice from the past. The Search Pad pages can even be shared through public URLs with the help of Twitter, Yahoo etc.
The feature may draw more users to Yahoo when there is a great deal of research work to be done. Earlier when CEO of Yahoo made comment about how the company is not competing in the search game, most people thought it was the end of Yahoo Search. But now it seems like the people got it wrong. The vice president of the company, Larry Cornett and Tom Chi, a product senior director at Yahoo both explained the situation.
“There was a desire [by Bartz] to highlight the things that Yahoo is doing outside of search. As you can see [with Search Pad], we’re not sitting around waiting for stuff to happen in search,” Chi explained.
Cornett commented: “We’re continuing to invest our time in search and come up with features we think are best in class”.
The concern about the feature is the tendency of the search engines these days to mix the contents from different sources in a way that is not traditional. But yahoo assures that any copying and pasting of materials into the Search Pad will be according to proper guidelines.
