Most of us who have absolutely no clue about the history of barcodes would have been surprised to see the barcode image instead of the usual Google logo when we opened the webpage on the seventh of this month. Relax, Google’s not for sale. This is yet another interesting logo from the Google Doodle collection to commemorate the anniversary of barcodes. The barcode logo was depicted both on Google’s home page as well as its search results pages to mark the fifty-seventh anniversary of barcodes.
For those who are not aware of the history of barcodes, this amazing invention was the brainchild of Norman Woodland and Bernard Silver. Seventh of October is not the day of invention of barcodes but the day it got officially patented. And this is what Google intended to capture with this unique Google Doodle.
Google Doodles have always been unique and interesting ever since its creation but one must agree that it has got exceptionally interesting over these past few months. The frequency of publishing these special logos has been upped in the recent times by the company which can be seen as an intelligent marketing gesture.
The barcode Google Doodle is the seventh special logo to have appeared on its webpage in the past one month, which is really high when compared to earlier times. On October second, we saw a special logo with Gandhiji’s portrait to mark his one-fortieth birthday. A rare and first time logo from Google appeared on September twenty-eighth of this year to mark the birth date of Confucius, the famous Chinese philosopher.
Yet another unique one was the ‘Googlle’ logo which appeared on September twenty-seventh for the company’s eleventh birthday.
