Google Search Market Share close to 77 Percent

Yesterday, the search agency iCrossing bought out its list of market shares of top search engines and I must say the data provided was quite interesting. According to the data, the market share percentages and distribution of the United States search market is quite different when compared to the data provided by other major traffic metrics firms. iCrossing reported that its figures are based on an extremely large representative sample of all Fortune 1000 companies spreading across all the major verticals, all of which make use of various search engines and search tracking tools.

The data from iCrossing on search market share for the month of September showed Google to be a whooping 76.7 percent and Microsoft Bing moved upward from August at 8.2 percent. Yahoo Search has plummeted to a meager 11.1 percent while AOL and Ask are also going downhill.

iCrossing claims that this data is derived from the actual traffic that is received from all the search engines. This is picked up by the company’s analytics who keep a track across various enterprise level sites as opposed to all the online traffic on the World Wide Web.

The data from comScore reported Google to have 64.9 percent of the market shares and Yahoo at 18.8 percent while Bing is slightly higher at 9.4 percent. And the data from Hitwise for the month of September shows Google at 71.08 percent and Yahoo at 16.38 percent, while Bing is at 8.96 percent. You can note that there is quite a variation in the market shares of Yahoo when you compare the reports from iCrossing, comScore and Hitwise. But Bing seems to have a steady hand in the market from all the various reports that has come in. Ask and AOL showed a loss according to iCrossing but seems to be stable as per the reports from comScore and Hitwise.
