Google is on its way in making mobile search an important part of business. It can be said that Google is the most dedicated in this direction when compared with Yahoo and Microsoft. It is working more and more to increase customer comfort in mobile search.
The first step in this was the “Android”. Then came the Android applications like “Places Directory”. Google is now working to improve the “Voice Search and Latitude”. Apart from these the upgrades for GMail and iGoogle make phone browsing easy and similar to a smart phone application. These are not the only developments. Google’s Content Network (display ads) for mobile has been expanded. Similar is the case the Google’s iPhone applications advertisements by the company.
The development that came to notice most recently is the “Universal Search” for the Feature phones in many countries. The Google Mobile Blog says about the feature like this:
“We’ve also launched the new experience for feature phones in the US and in Japan. Today, we’re happy to announce that the new format is available on all device models in over 60 countries and 38 languages.”
This new feature is that the News, Blog, Images, Video, Product Search results etc can be seen in the user’s results page whenever they are available. Most Google Search features will be available in the first result page to make browsing easy. Optimization of specific results will be done so that local listing for restaurants etc. will provide phone number links and other facilities in an easy access manner.
The new feature is expected to bring down the browsing differences between smart phones and the relatively low-end ones. Thus the search volume over phone is also expected to increase. This will enable the company to capture 85% of the market which is comprised of non-smart phone users.
