Internet Explorer 6 Users Having Trouble With Bing

From June 1st Microsoft has made available to the public their new search engine Bing. It is an improved version of the old Kumo and is designed in such a way as to replace Live Search. The search engine is better than Google also in many ways and so is sure to be a competitor. It is supposed to help Microsoft gain a good share in the search business.

Very soon following the release of the search engine, complaints started coming from the Internet Explorer 6 users that their browsers have changed the search engines from Google to Bing automatically. Most of these users had set Google as their default search engine manually for easy access. What adds to the discomfort is that Internet Explorer does not allow them to change it back to Google.

A justification that can be given on behalf of Microsoft is that Internet explorer 6 is a very old version and the ones in use currently are Internet Explorer 7 & and Internet Explorer 8. For these versions such a trouble has not been reported.

On being contacted, the representative of Microsoft gave a positive response about resolving the problem. The representative replied that the problem was being investigated upon and the update regarding it would be made as soon as possible. He said that Microsoft respected the freedom of users to choose the search engine of their wish, and that they do not intent to force Bing upon the Internet Explorer uses. But at the same time he requested the users to upgrade Internet Explorer to version 8. Also there is an alternative of installing Bing as an add-in for Firefox users.

Statistics show that most novice internet users depend upon Internet Explorer 6. So the bug becomes a serious issue as the browser influences the search market share.
