Meta Keywords Tag of No Use to Us - says Google

Google recently reported that Meta keywords tag has absolutely no impact on its search engine ranking pages. This news is nothing new and should be in the memory of every webmaster and search engine marketer. Google has always remained a little ambiguous when giving out information on its page ranking system but one thing comes through pretty clear in the message that was posted on the company’s blog site. Google search does not have anything to do with Meta keywords tag and these have no impact whatsoever on the ranking system of our search engine tool.

The post on Google’s blog also discusses about an imagined clash between Bob and Alice who are two web site owners. The row occurred as Alice complained that Bob is using her business name in his keywords tag and also copied other words from the same. Though there is no reference to a specific lawsuit or the actual name of the companies, the video that was posted along with the message on the blog does talk about lawsuits involving Google’s search ranking systems and the keywords tag. According to Google’s Matt Cutts, there is no point in suing the company over something that has no importance to the search engine.

In a similar scenario in 2006, Matt Cutts has posted a message on his blog confirming the fact that Google had banned an SEO company and its clients from the site’s index. At the same time, the banned SEO company was also suing a well-known SEO; Aaron Wall and Matt’s post on his blog refuted some of the claims that were made by the SEO company.

Google has dedicated an entire page about Meta tags on its webmaster and the word ‘keyword’ is not mentioned even once on the page. Once again, it confirms the fact that Google’s search ranks have nothing to do with Meta keywords tag.
