The Good, The Better and The Best

In a recent survey conducted by Citigroup it has been found that Google provides far more relevant results than Bing and Yahoo. Though that may not be very good news for Microsoft and the other big names associated with Bing or Yahoo, it sure is being celebrated by Google.

The study was conducted using 200 queries and it was concluded that Google was found to be relevant almost 71% of the time whereas Bing and Yahoo stood at 49% and 30% respectively. That is a small percentage when compared to that of Google.

The queries that were used for coming to this judgment came from varied number of topics such as entertainment, health, sports, retail and other miscellaneous topics. The evaluation was done on the basis of two main guidelines namely relation and closeness of the search to the results produced and the strength of the results produced which includes all the allied factors associated with the search like images and relevant videos.

Experts agree that lives up to the expectation of the users’ portraying the best of the capabilities according to the advertisements that they come up with. Though Bing has been promoting its services, once we use it, it may not be satisfactory enough.

Though Bing was found to be better in the health and travelling section all the other major sections were dominated by Google. Bing also offers attractive visual aids but cannot beat Google in the race for relevant answers for the searches.

The queries were selected from a list of most popular searches during a particular period of the test period. The results shown by Google were also found to be more varied and intensified on the topic of the search. Critics have pointed out that this type of surveys, if they are made frequent may hamper force the search engines to focus only on the most recently searched topics rather than aiming on the overall performance.
