Page rank sculpting has been in use for the past two years and has been enjoying great popularity also. Then it was suddenly said that the Nofollow attribute used in page rank sculpting will no more work. But now it seems it might work in an alternative manner. It was over a year back that Google announced that even the links with the Nofollow tag on them will count to how the ranking is done for the links from a web page.
Till 2005 there was no Nofollow tag system. Then it was not possible to block a link from the PageRank system. So the PageRank was spent equally between all the links from the page. Then the Nofollow tag system was introduced. The links with the tag on them was not counted. The rest of the links got the PageRank divided between them.
The Nofollow tag system was in use efficiently till 2007. People used the system to sculpt the Page Ranks. But in 2008 it was announced that the system has changed. It was said that all the links without the tag on them will get the PageRank that they will ordinarily get when the sculpting is not done. And the pages with the tag on them will not get any.
Now what happens is that Google itself looks at all the links in a page, their positions and the number of times they repeat in a website and then gives the PageRank accordingly. The use of Nofollow tag does not save PageRank for the other pages. All it does is that it will prevent those links from getting the PageRank assigned to them by Google in the ordinary case. The site owners can obtain quality external links, highlight the required link etc to help it get higher rank.
