The resignation by Google CEO was the latest news which reached every ear and this was a good bye to the Board of Directors of Apple. Schmidt took over the position as CEO from August 2006 and there were real high expectation which he did fulfill.

Now the question which comes up is why did he resign? Steve Jobs, the CEO of Apple had to comment about this situation like this. “Eric’s effectiveness as an Apple Board member will be significantly diminished, due to the Google entering more of Apple’s core businesses.” He was pointing out to the Chrome OS as well as Android.

There was a small note about the same incident which Apple released today:

“Eric has been an excellent Board member for Apple, investing his valuable time, talent, passion and wisdom to help make Apple successful,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Unfortunately, as Google enters more of Apple’s core businesses, with Android and now Chrome OS, Eric’s effectiveness as an Apple Board member will be significantly diminished, since he will have to recuse himself from even larger portions of our meetings due to potential conflicts of interest. Therefore, we have mutually decided that now is the right time for Eric to resign his position on Apple’s Board.”

According to a wild guess from my side, I think the main thing which might have forced him to resign was the inquiry by FCC on the Google Voice Application rejection into Apple. This is just a thought even though I am not sure about it. There were many other events which woke up the situation and you can find plenty of news related to these incidents as it was brought onto public view.

It was reported that about a million people bought the iPhone 3GS within three days from its launch. Activation of the phone can be done by dialing 800-331-0500 and talking to the customer rep. it is the fastest of all iPhones till date and also the most powerful. What makes the phone attractive is the new feature that has been added, the Spotlight Search. The new iPhone has got a large number of applications. It is very difficult to find these applications in the phone. Not only finding applications, finding out data for the core applications is also very difficult. Spotlight feature is introduced to help you out in this condition.

There are three ways in which the spotlight feature can be accessed. First way is to scroll the screens from right to left till the home screen is moved to the right. Or else clicking the home button twice will activate the feature.

Once the feature is activated the phone will display a white search box and a keyboard. The user can type in the query to obtain categorized results. Some of the categories under which the search results are listed are the following:

Applications: by the first, last or company name

Messages: by from, to or the subject line

Calendar items: by event, locations, invitees etc.

Clicking on the application will open them in their original application. It is also possible to customize the search. The applications to be searched and the order in which to be searched can be set. You can go to “Settings”. In that go to “General” and then “Home”. Scrolling down will take you to “Search Results”. Here the applications can be reordered or unchecked. To reorder the application list you just have to place a finger on the right horizontal bars and scroll them up.
